WEEK ELEVEN OF THE AUTUMN/WINTER SHOW JUMPING LEAGUE

Fantastic days show jumping for the eleventh day of our league. It was all to play for today for many riders as today was the deciding day for the league points and our winners.

First to go in the newcomers class was ‘Rebecca Toher’ on ‘Brownie Bear’, and she produced a lovely double clear round which brought her league points up to 42. This put the pressure on ‘Orlaith Murphy’ with ‘Velvet’ who had to have a double clear to stay in first place. Luckily, Orlaith didn’t leave the pressure get to her and she rode a foot perfect double clear to give her the lead in this year’s newcomers competition. The final for the newcomers is all about fun and as points are now fully allocated in this class, they can all relax next week and have fun in our novelty classes.

The 50cms this year was lead all the way by ‘Bronagh Bolger’ riding her own ‘Sharpay’. Bronagh finished on 42 points, well ahead of ‘Anne Horgan’ who finished her first ever show jumping league on 36 points. Lying in third place is ‘Aoife Murphy’ riding ‘Cloghroe Velvet’ on 29 points.

The 60cms competition is a hard fought one and we still have no outright winner, with ‘Leah Howard’ and ‘Lauryn Power’ still battling for first place. Both competitors are coming into the final on 46 points, which means for these two riders next Sunday is still all to play for. We’ll be looking for clears in the first round and then a jump-off against the clock to determine the winner. One of the youngest competitors, ‘Cliodhna Browne’, is also competing in this competition and is holding her position in third place on 42 points.

‘Lauryn’ and ‘Leah’ are on the top again in the 70cms, but with ‘Lauryn’ this time just having the advantage over ‘Leah’ and finishing in first place on 42 points, just one point ahead of ‘Leah and her pony ‘Have Another Brandy’. Holding third position in this class is ‘Roisin O Driscoll’ riding her own ‘Glanduff Holly’. ‘Roisin’ finished up on 39 points, only 3 points below the eventual winner. But ‘Roisin’ being a tough competitor wasn’t going to stay off the top for long and she worked hard in the 80cms and 90cms to come out in first place in both these classes. ‘Roisin’ finished on 41 points in the 80cms and 31 points in the 90cms. ‘Grainne Kearney’ with her new horse ‘Kasper Adamcyck’ finished second position in the 80cms and third position in the 90cms. Great job from both these riders as this is their first show jumping league on their new horses. ‘Emma Neville’ fought hard in the 90cms class but has to be content with second place only one point off the eventual winner. ‘Martina Carey’ riding her own ‘Levi’ holds the lead in the metre class on 19 points.

So a great day planned for Sunday the 4th of December with most of those qualified for the final being able to enjoy a fun days jumping with no pressure for points. Many thanks to our sponsors this year, O Brien Saddlery who have sponsored some fantastic prizes for our competitors.

WEEK TEN OF THE AUTUMN/WINTER SHOW JUMPING LEAGUE

Well, we are getting close to the end of our Show Jumping League here at Bridestown Towers Equestrian Centre with ten weeks completed. The turn out this year has been fantastic and thanks to all those competitors who competed every week to earn their places in the League final. The leader boards for most classes are really close and may have to be decided on the final day.

Our newcomers class has ‘Orlaith Murphy’ riding ‘Velvet’ out in the lead on 39 points, with her cousin ‘Rebecca Toher’ close behind on 37 points riding ‘Brownie Bear’. ‘Aideen Bolger’ who has been very unlucky the last few weeks having a fence down in the second round has to be content with third position riding ‘Brownie’. While the Beecher girls, ‘Ella and Molly’ are lying in fourth and fifth place. ‘Faelen Richards’ who only started competing last week, completed her first ever show jumping double clear on Sunday riding her own ‘Bambi Rose’.

‘Bronagh Bolger’ has held her lead in the 50cms competition all the way through the league and is not likely to be beaten, even though she has to miss next Sunday. In second position is ‘Anne Horgan’ who is also riding in her first show jumping competition and third place is ‘Aoife Murphy’ riding ‘Cloghroe Velvet’.

The 60cms class is very competitive, with ‘Leah Howard and Lauryn Power’ fighting for first place every week. After the ten weeks they are both lying in joint first place on 41 points, with little ‘Cliodhna Browne’ only one point behind them on 40 points. So it’s all to play for next Sunday to see who will top the leader board before the final on the 4th of December.

‘Leah Howard and Lauryn Power’ are also on the top of the 70cms league, with ‘Lauryn’ just one point ahead of ‘Leah’ on 37 points. ‘Roisin O Driscoll’ is in third place on 34 points with ‘Michelle O Regan’ in fourth on 30 points.

‘Roisin O Driscoll’ riding her own ‘Glanduff Holly’ is well out in the lead of the 80cms with 36 points and her closest rival is ‘Grainne Kearney’ riding her new horse ‘Kasper Adamcyck’ is in second on 27 points. ‘Leah Howard’ with ‘Have Another Brandy’ is in third place on 24 points.

‘Roisin’ is also out in front of the 90cms competition, with a 3 point lead over ‘Emma Neville’ on her horse ‘Ballyduff Blackie’. ‘Grainne Kearney’ is lying in third place on 16 points. The 1m class is definitely in the hands of ‘Martina Carey’ riding ‘Levi’ finishing this week on 17 points with ‘Kate Mulcahy’ holding second place with ‘Rumple Stil Skin’.

So with one week left before the final, the competitors have a lot of work to do to secure their first place positions, otherwise it will go to a jump off on the final day.

Lots to look forward too

NINTH WEEK OF THE AUTUMN/WINTER SHOW JUMPING LEAGUE

What a wonderful days jumping today at Bridestown Towers. We had a super turnout as usual from all our competitors who are fighting to hold their positions on the league leader board. We started our day with the newcomer class with all our beginners in the ring. Well done to all our double clear rounds and to seven year old ‘Faelon Richards’ for riding her very first show with her own pony ‘Bambi Rose’.

Our 50cms class jumped really well with all our competitors getting double clear rounds. We had seven double clear rounds in our 60cms competition with ‘Leah Howard’ and ‘Dunnyfort Five’ holding onto her lead in this class. ‘Lauryn Power’ riding ‘Yogi Bear’ is proving the one to beat in the 70cms class, performing a foot perfect double clear round. But ‘Leah Howard’ riding ‘Have another Brandy’ is hot on her heels with only one point separating them. Consistency is a huge factor in this competition.

‘Roisin O Driscoll’ riding own pony ‘Glanduff holly’ is taking over the 80cms and 90cms classes. Roisin only got this pony late this year and the combination is proving very hard to beat. ‘Martina Carey’ with her own ‘Levi’ is holding her own in the metre class with ‘Kate Mulcahy’ and ‘Rumple stil Skin’ being her closest rival.

EIGHTH WEEK OF THE AUTUMN/WINTER SHOW JUMPING LEAGUE

What a day of jumping we had today for the eighth week of our show jumping league. The sun shone all day and kept everyone in good form for the day. The newcomer class proved a little difficult today with none of our riders achieving that coveted double clear round. The 50cms class seemed to ride better giving us three double clear rounds from ‘Bronagh Bolger’ on ‘Sharpay’, ‘Anne Horgan’ riding ‘And Ivory’ and a newcomer to the league ‘Cliona Kearney’ with her own ‘Tick Tock’.

The 60cms had the top three in the leader board fighting hard for points and they left nothing to chance, with all three achieving double clears thus receiving 5 points each in the league and making no change to the leader board. ‘Leah Howard’ and ‘Dunnyfort five’ hold onto first place, 3 points ahead of ‘Lauryn Power’ and ‘Yogi Bear’. While little ‘Cliodhna Browne’ is only 1 point below Lauryn in third place.

The 70cms class proved to be a very difficult course with only one rider getting a double clear round. Well done to ‘Lauryn Power’ and ‘Yogi Bear’ for a copy book double clear. The 70cms class wasn’t the only one to catch the riders today as there was no double clear in the 80cms. All riders were able to get that one round clear but just could not achieve that second clear round.

There was a huge turnout for the 90cms class and two of the competitors rode foot perfect rounds to gain their five points towards the league final – ‘Roisin O Driscoll’ riding her own ‘Glanduff Holly’ and ‘Kate Mulcahy’ riding ‘Rumple Stil Skin’.

Halloween mid term pony camp

We had so much fun at of our Halloween Pony Camp. Our riders started the day with our 'monster mash mucking out', which I think was harder than they all thought it would be. Then we continued with some 'ghostly grooming' to get the ponies nice and clean for our 'bubble, bubble, toil and trouble pony games'. The games were so much fun, with 4 teams competing against each other. There was plenty of cantering, weaving, jumping on and off and running. The game called 'walk the plank' turned out to be one of the most difficult but we did get a winner. After lunch we had other games on foot and the most fun here had to be 'pop the balloon'. Seventeen kids running around and sitting on balloons to make them pop was like gun fire in the indoor.

On our second day we had great fun Bobbin for apples in one of our games. The ponies really loved it too. It was like having a break in the middle of work for them. I think 'Holly' & 'Toni' loved it the most. 'Holly' would have eaten all the apples if she could. We even got 'Brownie' to try one and he doesn't really like apples. Well done to everyone. It was so much fun. In the evening on the second day we made scarecrows, this for sure was one of the best parts of the day. The kids did such a fab job, considering they never made them before. I was very impressed. Well done to all, especially Aileen O Keeffe, Jerry Horgan, Thea Howard, Eloise Ross and Vivienne O Callaghan for building the best scarecrow.

What a fantastic last day we all had, with super exciting games being played. The first one was the stopping game where when the music stopped each rider had to get their pony to stop over a pole. Serious competition this proved to be. Then we played musical chairs, which was so much fun watching them all jump off to sit on the blocks. Well done to all my fab riders and of course the fantastic singers. The games wouldn't have gone ahead on our last day without the professional choir.

It was a most enjoyable camp and thanks to all the students who attended it and were so much fun through the week. Well done to all of you.
